As usual this trip started with a mad dash to the station
and with me making the train by the skin of my teeth. Obviously this was the second train that I’d
intended to catch because when the first train left the station I was still
looking in despair at my already full suitcase and the pile of items that still
had to be squeezed in somehow. Ended up
resorting to my age old trick of putting it all in a carrier bag. Sometimes I think that the only difference
between 20s Alice and 30s Alice is that I seem to have a posher variety of
carrier bags so I look a little less like orphan Annie! However I’m sure that
Fern is going to have stern words with me about the amount of luggage that I’ve
brought . . .
This aside this has been a relatively stress free
preparation for holiday for me, apart from the last minute vaccinations (thanks
Fern for reminding me yesterday) and the phone call from the insurance company
this afternoon reminding me that my contents insurance needs renewing next
week, oh well that one more for the list when I get to Fern’s.
So I’m sitting on an incredibly noisy train to London,
unfortunately without a drink because of the mad dash and wishing that I’d been
organised enough to fill my (empty) water bottle with a nice G&T . . . best
laid plans . . and it doesn’t exactly feel like I’ve started the big trek but
maybe East Croydon just doesn’t pack that level of excitement ;-) Looking forward to getting to Fern’s to
commence Operation Repack with Private Vino’s assistance . .
